Boca Negra Canyon

Today we went on a mini-adventure
to Boca Negra Canyon. Boca Negra Canyon is a part of the
Petroglyph National Monument.
There are hiking trails to see real ancient petroglyphs
but this is not the time of year to see them.
Does hiking among black rocks in 95* heat sound appealing?
I didn't think so, either,
so we just walked around the entrance.

The black rocks are pretty neat, though.
They are black basalt bouders.

I sat on one, and it hadn't gotten too hot yet.

This looks like the desert!

We'll have to come back in October,
when the temperatures are much cooler!

Meanwhile, I can learn more about
Boca Negra Canyon online

Summer Solstice Fishing Trip

Today is the longest day of daylight of the year.
I celebrated the summer by going to Tingley Beach.
Tingley Beach is a series of man made ponds
for fishing and other recreational use.
I went fishing!
Lucky for me, I am under 12 inches
and under 12 years old!
I think it is safe to say that I did not need a permit!

I focused my fishing attempts on a man made rock fountain
since the mountain was more my size!

Mom said there were no fish in the fountain

but I liked the clear waters with the rocks to sit on,
so I sit down to fish.

Fishing is a lot of waiting.

And then there was tug on my line!

I caught a tiny trout!

Then I decided to explore some more
by walking around the middle pond.

I could see the big person pond,
the island in the middle with the geese,
and the Tingley Beach building.

There were lots of cool fallen logs to play on!

This is pond at the south end of Tingley Beach.
I wanted to play in the stream,
but mom said it was not safe.

We walked around back to the main building,
which houses a bait/souvenir shop, food concessions,
and the bathrooms.

My trout was bitty.
This trout is big!

I sure like going fishing!
