Waiting for Christmas

At 12:45am on December 21st...

Saraya: I thought Christmas trees were supposed to have lights!

Satchel: I thought Christmas trees were supposed to have presents!
Go back to bed!!!!

Mikayla: Why were you two up at 12:45am this morning?

Saraya: We were looking for Christmas.

Satchel: Yeah...under the tree.
Mikayla: It was too early in the morning. You woke a lot of us up!

Besides, Santa doesn't come until the morning of the 25th.

Mikayla: This is a calendar of days so you know when to look under the tree again.

It is called an Advent Calendar.

Satchel: Most of the windows are open!

Mikayla: That is because we are almost to Christmas day!

Saraya: Look at the pretty pictures behind these windows!

Satchel: The one for tomorrow is over here!

Saraya: Can we open it yet?

Mikayla: Not until tomorrow!

Patience is really important when it comes to waiting for Christmas!

Fall

Our friends up north sent a whisper down south

telling me that it was time for fall clothes.

I found a special fall outfit, and got my fall portrait taken.

Now what?

I can't sit around in a black shirt.

They stain.
Ah! Here is one of my normal outfits.

This is more me.

"Hey, Satchel!"

"Yeah, what?"

"Maybe if you smile sweetly and ask nicely,

you can get your clothes changed, too!

"What would I want to do that for?"

"It is fall, and the weather is getting cooler."

"Oh. I hadn't noticed."

"You can't keep wearing shorts!!!"

"Why not?"

"It is fall!!!!"

Boca Negra Canyon

Today we went on a mini-adventure
to Boca Negra Canyon. Boca Negra Canyon is a part of the
Petroglyph National Monument.
There are hiking trails to see real ancient petroglyphs
but this is not the time of year to see them.
Does hiking among black rocks in 95* heat sound appealing?
I didn't think so, either,
so we just walked around the entrance.

The black rocks are pretty neat, though.
They are black basalt bouders.

I sat on one, and it hadn't gotten too hot yet.

This looks like the desert!

We'll have to come back in October,
when the temperatures are much cooler!

Meanwhile, I can learn more about
Boca Negra Canyon online
